Work on construction of T3 Baltic Hub terminal is 70 per cent advanced
At the end of October, four state-of-the-art STS (Ship-to-Shore) quay cranes arrived at the Baltic Hub in Gdansk, which are 96 metres high (140 metres with the boom raised) and weigh almost 2,000 tonnes each. The fully assembled cranes arrived in Poland from China and were installed on the quay of Terminal T3 in the following weeks.
The delivery of the cranes marks another milestone in the T3 project, as they are the first of seven STS cranes that will increase the handling capacity of the Baltic Hub by 1.5 million TEUs once the terminal is operational.
The work carried out by the Budimex and DEME Dredging consortium on the construction of the T3 Baltic Hub terminal is 70 per cent advanced, with completion scheduled for the end of September 2025.
Intensive reinforced concrete works are currently being carried out in the southern part of the terminal and concrete pavements are being constructed, on which vehicles serving the terminal will run. The rails for the STS and RMG cranes are also being installed, as well as a number of electrical and teletechnical networks.
– For the construction of the T3 terminal, we have already used over 17,500 tonnes of steel, equivalent to the weight of 2.4 Eiffel Towers; 4.3 million m3 of sand; 160,000 m3 of concrete, which could fill 52 Olympic-sized swimming pools. The work is currently being carried out 24/7 and more than 500 people are involved in the construction,’ concludes Piotr Sumila, Contract Director with Budimex SA.
The terminal covers an area of more than 36 hectares, and its 717-metre-long and 17.5-metre-deep transhipment quay will allow for the safe and efficient loading and unloading of containerised goods.
