Vistal renovates and modernises a floating dock for Norwegians

The floating dock was towed to Gdynia on Friday, 7 June. It was purchased by a Norwegian shipyard and comes from Klaipeda. Its renovation and modernization will be carried out by Vistal. The dock is moored at the Hungarian quay, which (in part) is at the disposal of Vistal Gdynia (formerly Vistal Repair Shipyard).

It is a dock formerly owned by the Western Shiprepair shipyard BLRT Grupp (otherwise known as Western Baltija Shipyard), known as dock 2 (PD-812),
The 10 000 t dock (according to other sources – 12 000 t), built in 1970, has a total length of 165 m, a line length of 153,6 m kiloblocks and an internal width of 27,4 m between the bumpers on the inside of the towers. It can accommodate ships with a draught of up to 7.8 m. It is equipped with two cranes with a lifting capacity of 15 tons each on a 10 m, 10 t / 15 m, 8 t / 21 m overhang.

By acquiring and modernising this dock, Fiskerstrand is investing in increased docking capacity, efficiency, access to new markets and meeting environmental requirements.

The shipyard in Klaipeda, which sold the dock to Norway, ordered new, larger floating docks for itself. Fiskerstrand, on the other hand, will replace its old (1943) 133-metre-long 7000-tonne dock, which has just been purchased and modernised, and which, according to unofficial sources, was to be sold to a Belgian contractor.

As part of the modernisation of the dock at the Polish shipyard, the following modifications will be carried out and equipment installed:
– enabling the handling of vessels with azimuthal propulsors protruding below the base plane of the vessel;
– hydraulically operated side supports to improve and improve the docking efficiency of certain types of vessels (in particular non-flat-bottomed vessels);
– system of collectors of polluted waste water after high-pressure cleaning of hulls to avoid pollution of the marine environment;
– Increased possibilities for the use of shore-side electricity.

On behalf of the Fiskerstrand shipyard, the main contract for the repair and modernisation of the dock is a Norwegian company that contracts work with Vistal.
