Venture Global LNG with permission to load LNG at Calcasieu Pass terminal
The American company Venture Global LNG has obtained permission for the first loading of LNG at the Calcasieu Pass terminal – Polish Oil and Gas Company (Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo – PGNiG) said on Monday, 14 March. It was noted that PGNiG would receive the supplies from this terminal from next year.
As PGNiG indicated in a Twitter post on Monday, Venture Global LNG has received permission for the first LNG loading at the Calcasieu Pass terminal.
The company stresses that from 2023, supplies from this terminal will be received by PGNiG under one of its contracts to purchase gas from the U.S. (1.5 million tonnes of LNG per year).
According to Reuters on Monday, U.S. Venture Global LNG received permission from federal energy regulators on Friday to load LNG into the first tanker at the Calcasieu Pass LNG export terminal in Louisiana.
It added that the gas carrier Yiannis arrived at the terminals on Monday. According to Refinitiv, quoted by the agency, “this is likely to be the first tanker to collect cargo from this facility”. However, the agency cautioned that Venture Global representatives did not confirm this information.

According to Refinitiv information quoted by the agency, the Calcasieu facility started producing LNG around 19 January this year.
As Reuters reports, Venture Global is installing 18 modular liquefaction units configured in nine blocks at Calcasieu to produce about 10 million tonnes of LNG annually. Analysts estimate the cost of building the facility at around $4.5bn.
In turn, according to Bloomberg, Calcasieu Pass holds long-term supply deals with nine international buyers but will be able to sell cargoes made during its months-long startup process on the spot market. Those cargoes will most likely be sold to ease an unprecedented energy crisis in Europe. The cold-blasted continent became the top destination for American spot cargoes, giving U.S. producers a tremendous financial incentive to run at or slightly above full capacity this winter.
