Unusual visitor to the Gulf of Gdansk

An unusual encounter took place during a tourist cruise in the Gulf of Gdansk. Participants had the opportunity to observe a feeding whale.

The cruise bureau ‘Gdańsk-Swibno Seal Cruises’ boasted on its social media a few days ago about a unique footage. On Thursday, 3 April, during one of the excursions aimed, among other things, at observing wild seals, participants encountered a whale!

‘A whale in the Bay of Gdansk! Seals and porpoises are not the only mammals of our sea. (…) in the Bay of Gdańsk 17km from the mouth of the Vistula Bold managed to observe a feeding whale. It submerged for about 6 to 8 minutes and then surfaced to take 3 to 4 breaths.’ – reads the Facebook page ‘Seal cruises Gdańsk-Świbno’.

The characteristic breaths, or ejections of air and seawater, were said to be over 5 metres high.

‘The whale showed itself to us 5 times. The sight was amazing. Our Baltic Sea amazes!’ – reports the cruise organiser.

Let us remind you that this is not the first visit of an unusual visitor to Polish waters. Only in February this year, a whale was discovered in nets by fishermen from Międzyzdroje.
