The contract to build 7 ferries for Scotland has been signed!

On 28 March 2025, Remontowa Shipbuilding, part of the Remontowa Holding group, signed a contract to build seven electric ferries for Scottish shipowner Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL).

The ferries will be equipped with electric propulsion, which will significantly reduce CO2 emissions, thereby contributing to more sustainable operations. The vessels will serve nine ferry routes located on the west coast of Scotland in the Clyde & Hebrides region.

Six of the ferries ordered will be able to take 150 passengers and 24 cars on board at any one time, while the seventh will carry 250 passengers and 16 cars.

Delivery of the first ferry is scheduled for the third quarter of 2027, with the entire contract expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2029.

The contract for the construction of the ferries was signed following the outcome of a public tender announced in July last year. Remontowa Shipbuilding’s offer was the highest evaluated, based on both price and quality criteria. In the race for the contract, Remontowa Shipbuilding beat renowned shipyards from the Netherlands, Turkey and the UK.

This is the largest order for the construction of a series of passenger ships in the history of our Shipyard in terms of the number of units and the value of the entire contract.

These will not be the first vessels built in our Shipyard for this Shipowner. Between 2005 and 2011, we delivered three ferries, designed to serve passenger and car traffic between Glasgow and other major cities on the west coast of Scotland, as well as the islands of the Western Isles archipelago.

An order from a returning Client is confirmation of our competence, experience and innovative approach to the tasks at hand.
