Remontowa service vessels work in the Barents Sea

Swedish company Viking Supply Ships has secured a time charter contract from Norwegian operator Vår Energy for the Gdansk-built 2021 offshore mining supply vessel (PSV) Coey Viking.

The 5,500-tonne, LNG-fuelled vessel, which is also equipped with a battery bank (hybrid propulsion), will join sister offshore service vessel Cooper Viking, currently chartered by Vår for a period until 23 January 2023. The vessels, built by Remontowa Holding Group’s shipyards, will together support mining projects in the Barents Sea.

The contract (charter) for the 98-metre Coey Viking will start in October this year and will last at least 120 days. The financial terms of the contract, which includes options to extend the charter, were not disclosed.

The vessel was previously chartered by Wintershall DEA and is currently undertaking supply voyages for Norwegian company Well Expertise.

Coey Viking and Cooper Viking have been purchased by Viking Supply Ships in partnership with funds managed by Borealis Maritime later in 2019. In addition to partial ownership, Christen Sveaas-controlled Viking Supply Ships retains full operational and commercial management of the twin vessels built at Remontowa Shipbuilding SA.
