The largest universal reloading operator in the Port of Gdansk handled a total of 485 thousand tons of cargo in March. It is the highest result in 10 years recorded by the company.
The highest growth among all cargo groups was recorded for coal and coke – 167 thousand tons, followed by general cargo – 144 thousand tons, which is an increase of 80%, and other bulk cargo – 102 thousand tons, which is an increase of 78% compared to March 2021. Cereals also recorded a good result with the transshipment of 60 thousand tonnes, as well as timber, of which a total of 10 thousand tonnes were transshipped. In Q1 2022, the company handled a total of 831 thousand tonnes of cargo.
The company actively invested in 2021. The total value of investments in infrastructure and suprastructure in 2021 is over PLN 32 million. Transshipment yards were modernised. Purchases included two Volvo L260H loaders, a Liebherr LH40m long-arm yard excavator and a Loco-tractor 9C 160 Orion to improve safety in terms of manoeuvring and fast movement between quays.
“The investments we have made and our experienced crew have enabled us to achieve record transshipments of 485,000 tonnes in March, an increase of 129% compared to March 2021 and also the best March in 10 years. In the coming time, we intend to continue investing in handling equipment to be able to meet the requirements of our customers,” – says Paweł Nowak, CEO of Port Gdański Eksploatacja SA.
Thanks to last year’s largest investment, the purchase of a Liebherr LHM 550 quay crane worth PLN 18 million, the handling and storage capacity of cargo handled at Dworzec Drzewny and Rudowe quays has increased significantly. Currently, the company is able to handle several hundred thousand tons per month.
PGE SA operates on the area of over 89 hectares. The company carries out reloading activities at berths located along the Martwa Wisła river, on both sides of the river – Wiślany Wharf (12.1 ha), Szczeciński Wharf (8.2 ha), Basen Górniczy Wharf (68.9 ha). In addition, as part of its operator activities, the company also operates at WOC I and WOC II Quay (14.2 hectares) and Oliwa Quay (5.9 hectares). PGE handles mainly: coal and coke, general cargo and timber, steel products, scrap, constructions, machinery, vehicles and cars and fertilisers.
