Polish ports among beneficiaries of PLN 2.1 billion from the Connecting Europe Facility

Poland has been awarded PLN 2.1 billion from the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for transport projects, the Ministry of Infrastructure said on Wednesday. The largest amount, over PLN 1.7 billion, has been allocated to Polish railway projects.

– Thanks to these funds, we will continue the modernisation and expansion of key rail and road connections, such as Rail Baltica or S17, as well as investments in sea ports, said Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak, quoted in the communiqué.

Two projects are implemented by PKP PLK and include works on the E 75 railway line (Rail Baltica) on the Białystok – Osowiec section and works on the railway line No 12 Skierniewice – Łuków (C-E20) on the Skierniewice – Pilawa section. The third project, carried out by the CPK company, concerns the preparation of project documentation for the Sieradz Północny – Pleszew – Poznań section of the North Sea – Baltic Sea corridor.

It was added that European Union funding has been granted for the implementation of two projects in the maritime sector with a total value of almost PLN 160 million.

The first project, implemented by the Police Sea Port Authority, involves the construction of a railway junction for the Police Port together with the necessary technical infrastructure. The second project, implemented by the Szczecin and Swinoujscie Seaport Authority, concerns the development of port infrastructure for receiving waste from ships in the Swinoujscie seaport.

In turn, more than 260 million PLN of EU co-financing was awarded to a project by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways – the construction of the S17 expressway between Tomaszów Lubelski and Hrebenne, as a way of improving traffic at the Poland-Ukraine border crossing.

In addition, funds from the general pool of the CEF Transport competition, amounting to PLN 7.8 million, were awarded to projects in the aviation and intermodal transport sectors.

The ministry recalled that the last CEF Transport competition within the budget of funds available in the 2021-2027 perspective is planned to be announced in September 2024, with an expected budget of more than €2.5 billion.
