Poland does not know the details of the proceedings to blow up Nord Stream

Poland does not know the details of the proceedings conducted by the German side regarding the blowing up of the Nord Stream pipelines, Minister in the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland Wojciech Kolarski said on Thursday.

The presidential minister on ‘Polsat News’ was asked about a statement by the former head of the German foreign intelligence service (BND) August Hanning published on the website of the daily ‘Die Welt’. Hannig claims that the attack on the Nord Stream pipelines must have taken place with the support of Poland and with the approval at the highest level of the presidents of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Poland Andrzej Duda.

Asked whether there was an agreement between Poland and Ukraine to blow up the pipelines, the presidential minister replied that the matter was being handled by the German side.

‘Poland does not know the details of these proceedings. What we do know is that a European Arrest Warrant was issued for a Ukrainian citizen at the beginning of July. However, the Polish side has informed the German side that this designated person is not in Poland. This is all I know on this subject, what I can say, repeating the information provided by the head of the BBN’. – the presidential minister pointed out.

BBN chief Jacek Siewiera in the morning on ‘Polsat News’, asked about the arrest warrant for the Ukrainian diving instructor suspected of attacks on Nord Stream pipelines, who was said to be living in Pruszków, replied:”(We know) as much as the media report. It is the German side that has the essential knowledge and information’.

Asked whether President Duda knew ‘about the action of the Ukrainians’, Kolarski indicated that he had learned about the case on Thursday in the context of the European Arrest Warrant addressed by the German side to the Polish side.

‘The Wall Street Journal’ reported on Thursday that top Ukrainian officials were involved in the attack on Nord Stream. According to the WSJ, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski initially approved a plan to blow up the Nord Stream pipelines, before unsuccessfully trying to cancel it at the request of the CIA. Ukraine’s involvement in the attacks was denied by President Zelensky’s advisor Mykhailo Podolak.

German services are looking for the suspect in the blowing up of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, Volodymyr Z., who was recently reported to be in Poland.

‘The Polish prosecutor’s office, after receiving the European Arrest Warrant, had to confirm his whereabouts; Volodymyr Z. has left the territory of Poland’. – informed the spokesperson of the General Prosecutor’s Office, Prok. Anna Adamiak.

An interview with the former head of German foreign intelligence (BDN) August Hanning appeared on the website of the daily newspaper Die Welt at midday on Thursday. He claims, without giving evidence, that the attack on the gas pipeline must have taken place with the support of Poland and with the approval at the highest level of the presidents: Zelenski and Duda. In his view, Germany should consider applying to the Polish and Ukrainian authorities for compensation. He bases his argument on his belief that such an action could not have been carried out by a diving instructor, but that Poland’s logistical support was needed and that approval could only have been given at the highest level.

On 26 September 2022, three of the four pipelines of the two gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and 2 were destroyed at a depth of about 80 metres at the bottom of the Baltic Sea. For years, a large proportion of Russian natural gas for Germany was supplied directly through Nord Stream 1. Many Eastern and Western European countries have repeatedly strongly criticised the project and warned of the geopolitical consequences of bypassing Eastern Europe in gas transit.

During the Russian aggression against Ukraine, Moscow suspended supplies even before Nord Stream 1 was destroyed. Nord Stream 2, on the other hand, was ultimately not put into operation due to the Russian invasion and the resulting political disputes.
