PGE expects the EC’s decision on the Baltica wind farm within several months
PGE expects the European Commission to issue a decision within several months with respect to determining the individual level of support for the Baltica wind farm, PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna said. This is one of the elements that will allow to make the final investment decision regarding the construction of the farm, it added.
PGE announced in a press release on Wednesday that it is working with Orsted to establish an individual level of support for the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm. The documentation in this matter has already been submitted to the European Commission (EC). It added that PGE and Orsted had notified an individual price in the differential contract for both stages of the Baltica offshore wind farm project – Baltica 2 and Baltica 3, which are jointly implemented.
As reported, the documentation was verified by the Energy Regulatory Office and the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection.
– Final energy prices in the differential contract agreed with the European Commission is one of the key elements that will allow us to make the final investment decision on the construction of the Baltica offshore wind farm. The differential contract will secure a large volume of energy at a fixed price, which is a benefit not only for investors, but first of all, for energy recipients,” explained Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, quoted in the release.
– The next step is possible questions and the final decision of the European Commission. We expect it within the next few months. We are counting on a constructive dialogue with the Commission throughout this process, we are open to it and we are well prepared – Dąbrowski emphasized.
The CEO stressed that he hopes to conclude the talks with the European Commission in autumn this year, i.e. roughly a year after submitting the application to the ERO.
The company noted that the EC decision does not, however, end the process of setting the final price for the differential contract.
– This will be followed by the verification by the Energy Regulatory Office which will decide on the final level of support for each of the two phases of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm. Our cooperation with URE during the initial verification was exemplary. Therefore we hope for a fast procedure also in the final stage of the case so that we can make a final investment decision and move on to the next stage of the largest investment in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea – it was emphasized.
PGE reminded that in April 2021, the President of the Energy Regulatory Office awarded both stages of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm – Baltica 2 and Baltica 3, jointly implemented by PGE and Orsted – support in the Contract for Difference (CfD), indicating in the decisions the maximum support price of 319.6 PLN/MWh.
Both stages of the offshore wind farm Baltica – Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 – are being implemented under the so-called first phase of the support system – assuming that support is granted by way of an individual decision of the ERO President.
