PGE CEO: we will import 8 million tonnes of coal by the end of the year
Since the beginning of the year, we have imported around 4 million tonnes of coal. By the end of the year it will be 8 million tonnes, PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna President Wojciech Dąbrowski assured on Wednesday in Gdańsk. He stressed that PGE was carrying out a special task to fill the gap that had been created in the Polish market after the announcement of the embargo on Russian coal.
– PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, through its specialised company PGE Paliwa, as well as other companies, is consequently carrying out a special task imposed on our group, which is aimed at filling the gap that emerged on the hard coal market in Poland after the embargo on coal imports from Russia was announced, PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna President Wojciech Dąbrowski signalled in the port of Gdańsk on Wednesday.
His visit coincided with the arrival of a ship with Colombian coal at the Gdansk port.
– At the moment, the ship with coal from Colombia is being unloaded. Its parameters are the closest to those of Russian coal, i.e. the one most sought after by individual customers and heating plants, Dąbrowski pointed out.
– Since the beginning of the year, we have imported about 4 million tonnes of coal to Poland, he added. He assured that every month more ships with approximately one million tonnes of coal will arrive at Polish ports. – By the end of the year, we will import 8 million tonnes to Poland, and by the end of the heating season, i.e. by April, we are planning about 10 million tonnes, Dąbrowski informed.
PGE’s CEO stressed that the coal imported to Poland from, among others, Colombia is of high quality. It is coal with a high calorific value. It is tested at the port of shipment and at the port of receipt by independent certified laboratories, he said.
The coal meets all parameters and is most similar to Russian coal, Dabrowski assessed. He also appealed to local governments to buy coal from PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.
Today, the price of pea coal we offer is ca. PLN 2,100 plus VAT. On the other hand, we sell fines at around 1,700 PLN,” the PGE president said. He also added that PGE has launched an online shop and a hotline through which orders can be placed. The minimum order value is 25 tonnes.
