PERN begins repair of ‘Friendship’ pipeline in western section

PERN’s technical services have started repairing the ‘Przyjaźń’ ( ‘Friendship’) pipeline in the western section, where on Tuesday in the town of Żurawice (Kujawsko-Pomorskie) one of the two lines was unsealed and oil leaked. PERN declares that it wants to restore crude oil pumping there as soon as possible. It is thanks, among other things, to the western section of the ‘Friendship’ pipeline that it is possible to deliver oil supplied by tankers (via the Naftoport terminal in the port of Gdansk) to the Schwedt refinery in eastern Germany.

“PERN’s technical services have already started repairing the unsealed pipeline that delivers crude oil to German customers. The aim is to restore the operation of the mainline as soon as possible and fully resume crude pumping,” – announced the company on Thursday.

As conveyed in the communiqué, during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, “work was being carried out to clean the pipeline of the remaining oil in it, which created safe conditions for the activities in removing the fault”. PERN stated that at the same time, analyses related to the cause of the incident are being carried out.

On Wednesday morning, PERN reported that a day earlier late in the evening, the company’s automation systems “detected a leak in the ‘Friendship’ pipeline on one of the two lines of the western section of the pipeline – about 70 km from Plock”. According to PERN, the causes of the incident are not known at this time. The company noted that the other line of the oil pipeline “is operating without any changes”.

In a further communication, PERN stressed that it “is in constant contact with German partners receiving crude through the ‘Friendship’ pipeline, in connection with the unsealing of one of the lines of the western trunk pipeline through which crude oil reaches German customers”. “Deliveries are taking place taking into account the technical possibilities”. – the company conveyed.

In turn, PERN reported on Wednesday evening that its services had reached the damaged pipeline. At the time, the company reported that from the first findings and from the manner in which the trunk line was deformed, there are no signs of third-party interference at this point. At the same time, the remediation of the area where the oil spill from the trunk line occurred has begun.
