Offshore Centre in Gdansk to be completed soon

Construction of the Offshore Centre, an investment by the Maritime University of Gdynia being developed in close proximity to the Wisloujscie Fortress in Gdansk, is scheduled for completion in June 2023.

Construction of the Offshore Centre began in the second half of 2021 after the Maritime University of Gdynia had signed a contract with Budimex S.A. on June 15, 2021, for the construction of an “Innovative Centre of Integrated Marine Environment Research Laboratories for the Offshore Industry.”

A year later, on September 15, 2022, a traditional topping out was hung on the construction site of the Offshore Centre, symbolising the facility’s highest point erection.

The building is growing fast – at the end of February 2023, the work was advanced at 68.92 per cent.

Currently, interior finishing work is carried out – tiling, painting, and carpeting. Installation of doors and suspended ceilings are underway. Works on the building’s facade, electrical and sanitary installation, and the supply and mounting of a cold storage facility are progressing. The building’s smoke extraction and fire protection system are also being installed.

In terms of external infrastructure, it is planned to start paving works (sidewalks, roads and parking space) in the near future, as well as the construction of the site’s target fence.

The Offshore Centre will be the new headquarters of the University’s Maritime Institute. Among other things, comprehensive offshore activities and measurements will be carried out here to acquire new information on the state of the marine environment and its resources. This information is essential for activities in the fuel, shipbuilding, offshore wind energy or maritime transport markets.

The value of the investment, including equipment, is estimated at around PLN 60 million.

The project is co-financed by European Union funds – Regional Operational Program of Pomeranian County 2014-2020 co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
