MV Cape Kennedy in Gdansk harbour with cargo of military equipment
The US ro-ro vessel MV Cape Kennedy sailed late on Thursday evening from Gdansk harbour, where it had arrived a few days earlier with a cargo of military equipment.
The MV Cape Kennedy (length 212, breadth 32 m) is a car carrier built in 1979 by the Japanese shipyard NKK Shipbuilding in Yokohama.
She is one of 27 Roll-on/Roll-off vessels belonging to the United States Military Sealift Command and one of 44 Ready Reserve Force (RRF) vessels in the National Defence Reserve Fleet Program Office. The unit is primarily used to transport military equipment and also participates in humanitarian missions.

The ports of Gdansk and Gdynia have been a place of regular transshipments of military equipment in recent years, which is due, among other things, to Poland’s alliance commitments within NATO structures.
