Installation terminal for Offshore Wind Farms 50 per cent advanced

The construction of the Installation Terminal for Offshore Wind Farms in Świnoujście for Orlen Neptun is 50 per cent advanced, Budimex said on Friday. – Budimex announced on Friday. The work is scheduled to be completed in March 2025.

The company said that the advancement of works related to the construction of the Installation Terminal for Offshore Wind Farms in Świnoujście is up to 50 per cent, the works are progressing according to plan and are scheduled to be completed in March 2025. Budimex started the investment in October 2023.

Budimex pointed out that the implementation of the investment has been divided into two parts, i.e. the hydro part and the onshore part.

– In the onshore part of the investment, which is the responsibility of Orlen Neptun as the investor and Budimex as the contractor, new storage areas for offshore wind turbine components, such as towers, blades and nacelles with a total area of approximately 17 ha, communication infrastructure, as well as new buildings: an administration and office building and a workshop building dedicated to the terminal’s clients, the company indicated.

The contractor announced that in the coming weeks it plans to continue to perform pavement construction layers, external and internal networks, elevation works on the workshop building and roofing works on the office building.

As described by Budimex, the projected volume objects – the administration and office building and the workshop building – are completed in the raw – closed state, and currently works related to the installation of aluminium joinery, roofing works and the installation of internal systems are in progress. ‘Sectoral works related to the construction of the sewerage system are also in progress: rainwater, sanitary, water supply, electrical and teletechnical,’ – Budimex contract director Sylwester Gora added.

The company also added that the construction of the new storage yards involved earthworks: 116,000 cubic metres of excavation and embankment, which are complete.

– Currently, the structural layers of the pavement made of aggregate reinforced with geogrid are being made. A total of 176 thousand tonnes of constituent components have been delivered to the construction site from which 300 thousand tonnes of 0/63 mix has been made, half of which, i.e. 150 thousand tonnes, is already embedded, said Gora.

Plunge reinforcement of the existing quay slab and adjacent areas was carried out. A total of 844 CFA piles with a total length of 6,696.0m and 1107 jet-grouting columns with a total length of 11,7903.0m were drilled, Budimex also reported.

Orlen Neptun says on its website that the offshore wind installation terminal in the port of Świnoujście is expected to be operational in late 2024/early 2025. It will be the first such terminal in Poland. It will combine the functionality of an installation terminal as well as a transshipment port. Orlen Neptun also emphasises that the terminal in Świnoujście has been designed to accommodate all, including the largest jack-up and heavy lift vessels for offshore wind farm projects with turbines of approximately 15 MW and offshore transformer station superstructures weighing ‘up to’ 24,000 tonnes.

Orlen Neptun is responsible for the development of offshore wind power in the ORLEN Group. In October 2023, the company received a final decision from the Minister of Infrastructure to grant five new sites for the construction of offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea with a total capacity of approximately 5.2 GW.
