Head of the Ministry of Defence: the mission of the Naval Academy is extremely important for the security of the Republic of Poland
The mission of the Naval Academy is extremely important for the security of the Republic of Poland, in order for the Navy to guard the security of Poland we must have educated sailors and officers, said Deputy Prime Minister, head of the Ministry of Defence Mariusz Błaszczak during the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Naval Academy.
On Friday, Mariusz Błaszczak, together with President Andrzej Duda and the head of BBN Jacek Siewiera, took part in the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Naval Academy in Gdynia and, at the same time, of higher military maritime education in Poland.
– A very important sign proving that your mission is extremely important for the security of the Republic of Poland is the presence of President Andrzej Duda, the head of the armed forces, during this ceremony,’ noted the Deputy Prime Minister. He stressed that it is necessary to strengthen the Polish Navy, as well as other types of armed forces.
The head of the Ministry of Defence recalled that in June this year a contract for 3 Kormoran II mine destroyers was approved, which are to enter service in the years 2026-2027.
– We are also already after placing an order for frigates in the Miecznik programme. We are strengthening the Navy in this area, but after all, in order for Poland to be safe, in order for the Navy to guard the security of our homeland, we must have educated, trained, prepared sailors, and above all officers,” Błaszczak said, in this context emphasising the importance of the Academy.
He added that in 2015 there were 150 cadets studying in all years at the AMW, “eleven less than today’s first-year students”.
