Gdansk: construction of offshore terminal begins
On Wednesday 13 November, construction of the T5 terminal, which is part of the Baltic Hub container terminal, officially started. It will serve as an installation port for offshore wind farms. The general contractor for the investment is NDI.
The planned surface area of the T5 terminal is 21 hectares, extruded into the waters of the Gulf of Gdansk. The length of the loading quay will be 800 metres and the depth of the basin at the berth will be 17.5 metres. This will allow the berthing of installation vessels and supply vessels for offshore terminals with an overall length of up to 170 metres.
In August this year, Pomeranian Voivode Beata Rutkiewicz issued a construction permit for the T5 terminal, which concerns the construction of, among other things: a transhipment quay, shore enclosures, fender and mooring dugouts, storage yards and communication or parking areas.
The governor’s notice also indicated that the permit applies to the execution of other construction works, including the reconstruction of: cable ducting, internal teletechnical network, rainwater drainage installation in connection with the planned demolition of the shore breakwater, manoeuvring yards and access roads.
In addition, as part of the permit, the contractor will be able to demolish: the shoreline enclosure, the mooring bay at the T1 terminal, roads and parts of the electrical and teletechnical installations.
In July, the European Commission approved state aid for the construction of an offshore wind farm installation terminal in the port of Gdańsk. The aid will amount to €194 million.
The completion of pile works is to be completed by the end of Q2 2025, the completion of the foundation by the end of Q3 2025, the completion of concrete and reinforced concrete works, installation and surface works by mid-2026. The final occupancy permit for all elements of the project, in turn, is scheduled to be obtained by 30 June 2026.
