First female captain on Eaglestar ship owner

Eaglestar Marine Holdings Pte. Ltd. (Eaglestar), part of the MISC Berhad Group, has appointed Eezmaira Sazzea binti Shaharuzzaman as its first female captain.

Eezmaira Sazzea was among the first group of Malaysian women selected to undergo professional maritime training at Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM, also known as Malaysian Maritime Academy) when the academy first opened its doors to female cadets in 2006. She graduated from ALAM in 2011 and has since sailed as an officer in Eaglestar.

Her maiden voyage as a captain began on August 13, 2021 on Seri Bijaksana, an LNG carrier built in 2008.

Expressing her pride, Captain Eezmaira Sazzea sees the appointment as a recognition of her ability and professionalism.

I am very grateful and honoured to be the first Malaysian female captain at Eaglestar and it will certainly be an exciting journey for me in this new role. I hope it will inspire my female colleagues not to give up on their dreams and goals.

Captain Eezmaira Sazzea is now part of a global community of women seafarers who are now fulfilled as captains steering merchant ships of various types around the world. The company expects to see even more women at the helm of ships in the future.
