FAMOR to equip A26 submarines being built by SAAB KOCKUMS
The Polish shipbuilding industry, is not only made up of companies located on the Coast, but also inland. One of these is the Bydgoszcz-based company FAMOR S.A. – which has been doing very well on the shipbuilding market for years. It has recently entered into submarine deliveries for the Swedish defence group SAAB KOCKUMS.
FAMOR specialises in solutions including the design and manufacture of low-voltage switchgear, distribution switchgear, configured navigation and signalling panels and lighting. It holds numerous certifications, including AQAP 2110, NATO certification, ISO 9001, ISO 13485.
During the EURONAVAL naval technology trade fair in Paris, an agreement was signed between the Swedish company SAAB KOCKUMS and FAMOR for the supply of equipment for the Royal Swedish Navy’s submarine, the A26 project.
– Under the agreement, FAMOR is to supply operator consoles for monitoring and control of shipboard systems. The consoles are for the operation of platform control systems, i.e. ship-wide (non-weapon-related) systems. They are to be installed not only on the two Swedish ships ordered so far, but also on the A26 project vessels ordered by other countries in the future, says FAMOR export director Anna Pawlikowska.
– ‘The cooperation behind SAAB KOCKUMS has enabled us to improve our manufacturing competences in projects dedicated to the Navy industry. We are in talks with further partners so that our specialised products are assembled in further projects for the Polish Defence Industry,’ adds Anna Pawlikowska.
The Bydgoszcz-based company also cooperates on other projects for the Polish Navy, where it is a supplier of electrical apparatus and equipment used to control and monitor the most important parameters for ships under construction.
– Components assembled on board specialised ships must meet very stringent electromagnetic compatibility requirements. FAMOR has a specialised design and technology department, and many products are designed and manufactured to individual customer specifications, so we are able to meet the difficult technical challenges of our customers. We are in advanced talks to supply equipment for further warships being built in European shipyards,’ adds Anna Pawlikowska.
– ‘Our 70 years of experience as an equipment manufacturer in the shipbuilding industry has meant that not only SAAB sees us as a reliable supplier and partner for years to come,’ summarised Vice President Zdzisław Rakocy.
