Cruise Ship Season Soon to Begin in the Port of Gdańsk

The first luxury passenger ship of this year will dock on Thursday, April 17 at the Westerplatte Defenders’ Quay. It will be the vessel Le Champlain, which was put into service in 2018 and belongs to the tour operator Ponant. The ship’s arrival is planned for 7:30 AM.

Thousands of tourists arrive at the Port of Gdańsk on luxury passenger ships every year. According to port representatives, 2022 was a record year in terms of the number of calls, when as many as 79 cruise ships arrived (with 29,500 passengers on board). The largest ship at that time was the cruise ship Marina, which was over 239 meters long.

This was influenced by a clear rebound after the pandemic. It is estimated that tourists arriving in Gdańsk leave between 3 and 5 million dollars annually on the Motława River” – reports the Port of Gdańsk.

This year, cruise ships will dock 60 times. The season will be inaugurated by the aforementioned Le Champlain, which is 131 meters long. It will arrive once and will not be the largest vessel in terms of length. This title will go to the luxury, 250-meter Crystal Serenity this year, belonging to the shipowner Crystal Cruises. The ship will enter the Port of Gdańsk twice: on July 3 and 25.

The season will end on October 20 with the arrival of the 145-meter vessel Hamburg (previously also announced for May 21), sailing under the flag of the Bahamas. This ship has visited Gdańsk many times.

A detailed list of cruise ships announced for this year is available on the Port of Gdańsk website.
