Contract for the construction of a rescue ship for the Polish Navy signed

The contract to build the “Ratownik” ship for the Navy was signed on Friday in Gdynia. Among other things, the rescue ship will serve to ensure the safety of sailors on submarines and surface vessels. ‘It will also serve civilian vessels, of course’. – assured the head of the Ministry of Defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

– This is a great investment,’ Kosiniak-Kamysz said during the ceremony.

As he pointed out, the value of the order for the MW is over one billion zlotys. The ship is to be ready by 2029, and the symbolic first works – cutting plates and laying the keel – are to start in a year.

As indicated by the head of the Ministry of Defence, the ship will be about 100 metres long and have a crew of almost 110; it will be used for all types of rescue operations at sea.

– The “Ratownik” Ship will serve the Navy, the safety of our sailors – all those who operate in the Baltic – but it will also, of course, serve civilian vessels if the need arises. We will be open to help and support all those who expect such help,’ he assured.

Kosiniak-Kamysz also pointed out that the construction of the rescue ship – equipped, among other things, with equipment for submarine operations – is closely linked to the ‘Orka’ programme, under which the Navy is to receive new submarines.

– We will make it happen, we will be the ones to translate words into action,’ Kosiniak-Kamysz assured.

The “Ratownik” project ship is to be designed for rescue operations, support at sea and in coastal areas. The ship is to be equipped with, among other things, underwater vehicles and hydrolocation equipment, enabling it to carry out a wide range of underwater work, sea rescue, diver training, cooperation with subdivisions of special forces, securing NATO forces in the Baltic Sea.

“Ratownik” is also to be used during the securing of existing and future offshore energy projects, such as the construction of wind farms.
