CEO of the Port of Gdansk: It will be a record year for us

This will be an absolutely record-breaking and exceptional year for us, as we have increases in transshipments in practically every cargo group,” Port of Gdansk CEO Łukasz Greinke told PAP in an interview.
The Port of Gdansk CEO explained to PAP that this year’s result is undoubtedly influenced by the war in Ukraine and issues related to the embargo imposed on solid fuels from Russia.
“All these factors, and above all the closure of the land border, have resulted in goods that used to be transported from Russia being replaced by goods from all over the world. At the moment, we are primarily seeing increased volumes when it comes to bulk commodities: coal and oil,” – he said.
Greinke stressed that key developments for the port in the coming years include the expansion of the Baltic Hub and Naftoport, as well as the construction of a floating LNG terminal. In the short term, on the other hand, the optimisation of cargo handling processes.
“This immediate period of time is all about optimising our processes and working very closely with stakeholders who operate around the port so that cargo deliveries and discharges are as smooth as possible, because we can see that a great potential is enchanted precisely in these processes,” – he stated.
The CEO of the Port of Gdansk also sees great potential in the Naftoport Terminal. “It not only supplies our two Polish refineries, but is also connected by a system of oil pipelines to refineries in Germany. We can see that every glitch on the Druzhba oil pipeline obviously means additional transshipment volumes for us. We saw this first time with the chloride crisis, when the port of Gdansk had to ensure 100 per cent supply of crude to our refineries, and the second time with the recent failures, which mean that more cargo weight is directed to our port to diversify supply,” he – he added.
