After an overhaul at the Gdansk Shipyard, the Islander ferry inaugurated sailing on the Portsmouth-Guernsey route

On Saturday, the ro-pax ferry Islander arrived in the UK port of Portsmouth for the first time. In turn, it began services on the Portsmouth – Guernsey – Portsmouth route on Sunday 23 March.

The Islander – formerly sailing under the name Condor Islander – had been undergoing repairs at the Remontowa Shiprepair Yard of the Remontowa Holding S.A. Group in Gdańsk for the past month.

According to the shipowner’s representative – in addition to the dock work – a rebranding of the vessel was also carried out. The Condor Ferries company logo was replaced by the colours of Brittany Ferries. The ship’s interior has also been refurbished in the colours of the new owner.

The change of name and colours follows Brittany Ferries’ purchase of a majority stake in Condor Ferries.

– The colour change is therefore only the first step towards improving the passenger experience, which will focus on reliability, comfort, hospitality and value, said Christophe Mathieu, CEO of Brittany Ferries.

The Islander (125m long, 23m wide), which entered service in 2005, can take up to 400 passengers on board, as well as cars and trucks.

Brittany Ferries officials have also announced that the Condor Ferries-owned high-speed catamaran Condor Voyager, which has sailed so far, will begin service on a new route, between St Malo (France) – Guernsey – Poole (UK). Once a week the catamaran will also call at the island of Jersey.

Guernsey is a territory comprising the island of Guernsey and a dozen smaller islands in the Channel Islands archipelago, located in the English Channel, off the coast of France. It has the status of a dependency of the British Crown – it is not formally part of the United Kingdom.
