Another area to build offshore farms in the Baltic for PGE

The Ministry of Infrastructure announced on 25 January 2023 the results of the adjudication procedure for the location permit (PSzW) for area 60.E.3 located on the Central Shoal of the Baltic Sea. The company Baltica 1 Wind Power Station, a subsidiary of PGE Baltica of the PGE Group, received the most points. The company Elektrownia Wiatrowa Baltica 1 is already implementing the Baltica 1 project in the Baltic Sea.

– Area 60.E.3 is directly adjacent to the Baltica 1 project that we are already developing. This means that there are great opportunities to use synergies in the future development of both projects. In some cases, it will be possible to carry out joint procurement procedures for, among other things, conducting research and acquiring components necessary for the construction and operation of offshore wind farms in this part of the Baltic Sea. This is the second recent procedure decided in favour of the PGE Group. This testifies to the high substantive quality of the applications prepared and the solid work of our specialists behind them. According to the PGE Group’s strategy, we plan to build at least 6.5 GW of generation capacity on the Baltic Sea by 2040 and each new location permit will bring us closer to fulfilling this goal – commented Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, on the adjudication.

This is the second settlement in favour of PGE in the proceedings for new areas for offshore wind investments in the Baltic Sea. At the beginning of January, the Ministry of Infrastructure announced the results of the proceedings for area 43.E.1. At that time, the PGE Group company also received the most points.

Area 60.E.3 has an area of approximately 143 square kilometres and is located about 78 kilometres from the Polish coast. PGE Baltica estimates that it can build 1185 MW of generation capacity in the new area.
