Baltic Pipe gas pipeline officially opened on Tuesday

At the gas compressor station in Goleniów, the transmission of gas through the Baltic Pipe pipeline was symbolically launched on Tuesday. From 1 October this year, gas from deposits on the Norwegian Continental Shelf will flow to Poland through the pipeline.

The symbolic unscrewing of the valve on the pipeline was carried out by President Andrzej Duda, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

The pipeline creates a new supply route for natural gas from Norway via Denmark to Poland. The investors are the transmission operators Danish Energinet and Polish Gaz-System.

Construction was completed in 2022, with the exception of two sections in Denmark, where work was halted for several months in 2021 due to the revocation of environmental permits. Due to this delay, on 1 October the Baltic Pipe system will start with limited capacity, using part of the Danish system; the system is capable of transporting 10 bcm of gas to Poland.

However, Energinet said on Saturday that the Danish section could reach full capacity a month earlier than expected – by the end of November this year.
